School Visits

WES offer school visits covering the correct use of voice, accent reduction, presentation and public speaking skills. We offer workshops in poetry recitation, poetry and prose reading and understanding poetry.  We also strongly believe that once these skills have been mastered, all children should have the opportunity to achieve accredited Speech & Communication qualifications, with LAMDA exams being the most recognisable route.

Such opportunities allow children to flourish and gain experiences that would not otherwise be available to them through delivery of the day-to-day curriculum. These sessions can be delivered through full-day, half-day or after school workshops.  WES are also able to provide Skype Sessions, working with UK and International Schools.  EAL/ESL support and intervention is also provided.

Never before has Poetry featured so prominently in the curriculum. And rightly so. With a world of rich and wonderful language to explore, for too long, poetry has been taught within schools in a dull and uninspiring way, with the vast majority of children being left completely unaware of many of the great poets of our age, and indeed, any age. The curriculum now provides us with a platform from which we can reach out to the children and introduce them to this exciting new world.

Year 2 POS –

“..continuing to build up a repertoire of poems learnt by heart, appreciating these and reciting some, with appropriate intonation to make the meaning clear.”

Year 4 POS –

“…preparing poems and play scripts to read aloud and to perform, showing understanding through intonation, tone, volume and action
recognising some different forms of poetry.”

Year 6 POS –

“…learning a wider range of poetry by heart.”

It may be that you would be looking to enter the children into LAMDA exams or possibly even looking to put on a performance of the children’s work.  There may be Pupil Premium children requiring specialist support.  Through full-day, half-day and after school workshops (which can be delivered as one-off sessions or on a termly basis) WES will tailor the delivery (either in person or online) according to the needs of each individual school.
